As I was planning to go back to Delhi in a few days, I had planned to take the day for a photo shoot(not that i'm a great photographer!!) of nadapuram to post here and elsewhere. I've heard guys discussing the timings and all, but wasnt initially interested because i thought the timings of my shoot and the trip would clash.
By 9:30 next morning, I was already in town with my camera. the deserted town was easy to photograph, coz there wasnt much happening to distract us. I had a friend, Zubair, along with me. That's when Mayiz, one of the organizers of the trip, called me and said that they would only go by 11. So we thought we'd go along if we're done with the shoots. and nadapuram being a comparitively small town to walk around, we were done by around 11. (I must confess i could have taken some more better photographs-but only if i had enuf patience!). Technically June July should have a lot of rain. But for the last two days, there wasn't even a hint in the weather which told us, yes, this is monsoon time. Infact, the hotness of the day also inspired me for the trip. Guys were ready to go and was waiting in front of Mayiz's house. There were a total of 10 bikes.. 20 people that is.
And of we went to Idayakkayam, a water fall some 12km away from nadapuram. some of us didnt have enough petrol, and the petrol stations were also closed due to the harthal. a perfect harthal.!! but the spirit was undying.. and without much hassles-except for a punctured tyre- we were there. On the way I have met my cousin who stays nearby, returning from the falls. He said the place was too crowded. Nadapuris smell divable waters-be it ultra rural waterfalls or deep forest streams, they somehow smell it!! Not surprisingly many from Kallachi and nearby places were already there.

The idayakkayam falls is around 25mts high and is located considerably inside a jungly area. the frothing water lashing the huge rocks with all its might and speed, is an amazing thing to watch. The water then flows downstream to I dont know where, kissing the big round stones, making small smooth dips here and there. Guys had already started climbing the rocks to jump into the fall's main dip. the water was ice cold and the spirit was high. My initial duty was to take as much as photographs, with one or the other calling me over the deafening sound of the falls to take their photos while jumping into the water, while swimming, while standing, climbing etc etc...
After sometime, I too went in my lungi.. to have the high velocity water hit you is a humbling experience. we grow small in front of the might of nature. and i praised the lord.
some of us were successful in swimming against the flow to reach a sort of cave behind just behind the fall. the fall acted like a curtain to that cave. and it was quite hard to swim and reach there. I climbed down through a tiny gap in the rocks to reach there. A cheat!
Then me and Noushad climbed upto the fall's starting point. and Lo! the scene was breathtaking. there was the wayandan hills on the horizon, and water was hitting and turning around roundstones as if in a great hurry to jump off from the fall. if your legs slip a bit, you are gone..dead. we took some photos from there too. and started our journey back.
Murshid, the guy whose tyre was punctured, had to be escorted by two of us. He was hoping for a open tyre repairing shop. which we didn find..we parked his bike in a nearby house and planned to come back and repair it next day. We had a tea and some snacks from a tea shop which was luckily open.(by the way, rumour has it that people of Vanimel dont care about harthals. They would open their shops, come what may!!) after which, we slowly drove back reminiscing the good time we just had.
